Great Labor Day Weekend:
I believe this past weekend has been one of the best yet. Examples:
Our son and grandson came home from KY to visit for a week on Wednesday night the 30th. They not only had time to visit family but friends also. Our daughter-in-law was unable to come because she was on-call for her doctor's office and hospital over the weekend. We missed her and I know she missed us (expecially her husband and son).
On Saturday the guys killed a few dove at the annual dove hunt and the fellowship was really nice. We had friends and family there including my four siblings who had not been together since Thanksgiving. My husband, two sons, a friend of the family, and a great nephew arose early for their travel from Jackson to the farm--5AM. That left our grandson, a niece, and myself at home in Jackson to travel later in the morning to see what was happening at the farm. Watching the guys hunt, the kids play in the creek and eating, topped off the day. Our two sons had a special birthday cake that day with a drawing of a dove and camoflouge streamers on it.
One had a birthday on August 28th and the other has a birthday on the 12th of September. The weather was nice and sitting outside wasn't to bad. We probably took a hundred pictures, many showing the fun of the day.
On Thursday the 31st the guys put together a trot line fishing trip for the weekend. They ran the lines off and on through Monday morning. It was a little productive but that was not the highlight of the trip. Seeing the guys working together for the trip and on the trip made it special. They shared the experience of fishing with my great nephew and even our grandson got to touch the fish, boat, boat paddles and have a little fun of his own. Then the family outing on Monday to fish and eat at the optimist lodge. Not any fish that counted but fun at the pier and a great catfish dinner.
The cooking for the weekend was shared by all from me cooking pot roast, our older son cooking pasta, my husband frying our catfish outdoors and our younger son cooking chicken on the grill. All was good and we probably ate way to much.
Oh, then there was the trip three of us made to the Gail Pittman outlet store and tent sale. I have determined that our older son and I could shop till we dropped not necesssarily buying but looking. We did drop a little cash but the prices on the dishes was fantastic. Gail Pittman is a reknowned pottery maker and has six outlet stores throughout the south. She makes beautiful dishes of many patterns and styles.
I could keep talking about the weekend and how wonderful it was forever but at this moment I just noticed the quietness of the house and how I would pay to have some adults around to visit or hear the sound of little feet walking and playing again. They (all the adults and children) will be coming back and yet the moments from the weekend will always remain with me.
It didn't take a lot of money nor an overseas trip to make this one of the most perfect weekends. Every relative and friend had their journey home with many memories.
